Hello anglers,
A fresh northwesterly has encouraged guests to fish the hot spots around south-eastern Langara Island - "big three" of Coho, Andrews, and MacPherson Points.
Salmon have been coming in with each week improving steadily, with hundreds already tipping the scales.
While the average size of Chinook salmon was in the mid-twenties, they are proving to be a more aggressive and enthusiastic fighting fish that can certainly get the blood pressure to rise and smiles to widen.
Coho are showing up in greater numbers with the largest caught to date at 18lbs. Chum and Pinks are being caught with regularity at the "Factory" . And the largest Chinook salmon to date this season is at 51 pounds, and this record is ready to be challenged!
Two of our trips here had great success with bottom fish. Trips arranges by the Fishmasters to Ocean Shoals produced a couple of 168lb'ers. The chicken farm has been fantastic for halibut between 10 and fifteen pounds. Lingcod and yelloweye, always gourmet favourites are being caught in a variety of places including the Lighthouse and Langara Rocks.
Spots to try your luck this week include Gunia Pt, Bruin Bay and with the weather improving the West Side of Langara Island. See you out here soon.
