Langara Island Fishing Report
Langara Island Fishing Resorts - July 22, 2006The Coho arrived in swarms today, making the fishmasters run around the island all day stocking the boats with much needed extra bait. Anglers could afford to be selective with the Coho they retained and were able release many for future generations.
The first light bite was at Cohoe Pt, with all types of salmon being caught in very shallow water. Anywhere from seven to fifteen pulls was most effective.
Some nice Chinook were also retained. The most effective troll was to cruise right around the tip of Cohoe Pt, starting at the southern end, and continuing around to the northern side.
In the afternoon, the bite at Cohoe slowed only to see the action shift to Gunia Pt. Coho salmon were caught from Gunia Pt to Boulder Rock in as shallow as 50 feet of water. The most effective depths were anywhere from eleven to twenty five pulls. Anglers with the patience to troll slowly — and a little luck — hooked into Chinooks right off Gunia Pt, at 25 to 40 pulls.
Novice Langara angler Dillion Linhart caught a 45 pound Ling cod today while bottom bouncing with his grandfather Roger and friend Ed. They are keeping the location quiet, but the crew have a “feeling” it came from Langara Rocks.
The whale show over the past week continues to be amazing. Minke whales have be intermixing with the guests as they feast upon the bait fish in the area. Every bay or cove seems to have at least one swimming around. Unfortunately, a large pod of Orcas showed their ferocity and killed one of the Minkes just around the corner from the resort. The ocean literally turned red.
The crew would also like to thank Captain Dick Turpin for all his hard work over the past three weeks. Capt Dick has returned home after handing over command to seasoned Langara veteran and turbit assassin, Captain Michael Gray.
