Southeast winds are never welcome at Langara because they can shut down the productive run from Cohoe Point to Langara Rocks. This was the case with our most recent blasting, so we took the opportunity to explore some of the less well travelled spots on the West side. Taking one for the team, I decided to check out Cape Knox, and while I was making a series of passes there, Roger Varthel picked up a 25 pound Chinook in the kelp beds at Cox Island. There really is a first time for everything! Chanal Reef and Bruin Bay also yielded a few nice Chinooks and the Parry Passage hali spots rewarded those with the discipline to stay on top of the small shoals that mark that area.
The east side of Langara is continuing to develop as the season progresses, with Andrews Point being the most consistent producer. Gary Morris has had a great trip, taking 41 and 43 pound Chinooks from Andrews and Dibrell Bay. Coho are starting to show up and the Pinks are numerous enough to cause some people irritation.
