Langara Fishing Update
Langara Island Fishing Resorts - July 2, 2007
Congratulations to the MV Marabell’s newest Master Fisherman: Ryan McNally brought in a 135 lb. halibut caught at the Lighthouse.
A new halibut spot called “heli hali” was found off Lacy Island, reliably producing 10 to 30 lb. fish. Lingcod and halibut are also coming from the classic spots SW of the Lighthouse.
All east side points are producing salmon, including several Tyees in the last few days, with Cohoe Pt continuing as the most reliable spot. Lacy continues to be strong this year and Tyees are coming from there as well.
Humpback activity in the area has increased and fishemen are finding them a good indicator that needlefish are present. This creates the pleasure of a good salmon bite coinciding with a bit of whale watching. Orcas have also been seen sweeping through on an almost daily basis, but they don’t seem to linger long enough to shut down the fishing for very long.
As we come into high summer both Cookie and I are scouting Marchand Reef and Bruin Bay for the legendary monster Chinooks that sometimes lay in those spots.
