Everyone is working feverishly to get the Charlotte Princess ready to greet her first guests on June 10. Chef Darren’s dinner creations have been a resounding success, with many of the crew members already moving their belts up a notch. Chief Steward Gareth is whipping the in-house crew into shape and the docks are coming together quickly…all of this flurry of activity is leading up to one thing, the annual Charlotte Princess crew pre-season fishing derby.
Expectations are high this year because the initial crew trips to the fishing grounds have yielded great returns, with salmon being caught on every foray. Most of the Chinook being caught are in the twenty pound range but we all suspect that there are some lunkers out there. Most of the fishing success has been off of Andrews Point and the fish have been quite shallow – 29 pulls has been the most successful depth but the 10 pull stern rod has been catching more than its fair share.
Winds and rain have both been light but the mornings have been chilly and the coveted Charlotte Princess toque is a required fashion accessory. Once again, the humpback whales are putting on a great display. It is all shaping up for a fabulous 2010 season.
