Fish deep, fish often
Langara Island Fishing Resorts - July 15, 2007Deep fishing continues to produce Chinnooks in the 20 to 40 lbs range. Langara Rocks and Cohoe Point are the hot spots with solid fishing also coming from Andrews. Other lodges are fishing at McPherson Point but it's cold right now (I base that mostly on the fact that they can’t fish as well as we can!).
One trend that has become apparent this year is that most Chinooks are being caught while the boat is out of gear, and I have had many fish bite after drifting for several minutes. I have seen massive schools of herring moving in over the past several days, so I am anticipating the already great fishing to improve in the coming weeks.
Halibut and Lingcod have shown up at one our bottom-fishing spots off the Lighthouse called Two Drops. Tom Grenier took a 74 lb. hali from there two days ago. All of the major points are also producing chicken halibut and Lingcod as an incidental catch while salmon fishing.
Humpback whale and sea lion watching continues to provide a nice diversion, and I am happy to report that our loss of fish to sea lions and seals has come way down.
