Epic fishing

MV Charlotte Princess - July 16, 2009

Hey Folks, Cookie here again with some updates on the fishing here in the paradise known as Langara Island.

Chinook and Coho fishing has picked up considerably in the last couple days with most people getting into multiple Chinooks and dozens of Cohos daily. There were massive bait balls all around the island the last couple of days creating a bit of a feeding frenzy. All the major points are producing fish with Cohoe and Andrews Points leading the pack.

Chinooks are biting at all depths depending on where the bait is, but most guests are fishing 35-60 pulls for them to stay away from the millions of friendly neighborhood pinks that have been migrating through in force.

The halibut fishing is outstanding all around the island, with bigger ones (35, 47, 68, 56, 103 lbs._ coming from off the lighthouse in 180-200 ft of water. Our bottom fishing trip today was spectacular with most boats limiting on halis, lings and yellow eye.

The new runs of Chinooks are getting larger by the day with several fish approaching Tyee-class today. Those looking for that master fish of 50 lbs. should be spending some time in Bruin Bay which is producing some slabs. Several 10 lb. plus Cohos hit the dock today just full of herring and needle fish.

Cookie’s Inside Tip Of The Week

When fishing Bruin Bay, Boulder or Explorer Bay use the smallest herring you can find or cut your plugs shorter to more closely emulate a wounded needle fish. Following the birds in these areas also pays off.

Forever tightening lines,
