Canada Day Fishing Report

Langara Island Fishing Resorts - July 1, 2006

Moderate to strong north-west winds have kept anglers to Andrews and Cohoe Pt on the east side of Langara, and Bruin Bay and Gunia Pt to the south. Have no fear though, cause the bite has been on.

The morning bite has been at Gunia working the point at 10 to 20 pulls while the afternoon bite is at the Egeria Bay side of Cohoe Pt at 15-25 pulls. In the last 48 hours, Coho salmon have appeared in copious numbers, providing anglers with steady action throughout the day and less “chasing the bite” fishing. The result is happier anglers and deckhands cleaning fish until late each night.

As for onboard gossip: The crew has agreed to start a new type of fishing derby (first one to tag out on each of the local fish species; pink, chum, yellow eye, lingcod, etc wins). The ȜFish-Marshall” filled his zodiac to the brim as a 4 metre high swell breaked into his zodiac, forcing him to return to the ship for a dry pair of socks and a warm coffee. Rocko the sealion is starting to get a little too close to the fish cutting table.

Finally, the crew says thank you and goodbye to Captain Alec Provan for all his hard working keeping everyone in line for the last three weeks. Captain Dick Turpin now takes over the helm.

Oh yeah, Never, EVER net a fish tail first! .... ask an iron worker about that one .....
