Getting Lucky in Boulder Bay
This fishing tip was first published in the Winter, 2006 edition of the Salmon News, a free publication for all Oak Bay Marine Group guests.
Boulder Bay is located between Gunia Point and Pillar Rock on the north-east corner of Graham Island. Late-summer Coho action can be incredible at Boulder, especially on a rising tide. The currents tend to push schools of baitfish right along the shoreline causing the salmon to feed aggressively.
Use a four ounce weight, with your line 10 to 15 pulls out (or 13, if you’re feeling lucky). There’s a good current at Boulder Bay; try travelling with it. You’ll want to fish in 50 to 70 feet of water.
As always, make sure your hooks are razor sharp. Keep your motor in gear, and cut your bait on a more abrupt angle than usual, creating a tighter, faster roll.
