Langara Island Fishing

hoisting up a langara island king salmon

The MV Charlotte Princess is a self-guided Langara fishing resort where guests fish two per boat. Our expert Fishmasters are always on the water, ensuring that you have enough bait, fishing gear, and know-how to bring in your dream salmon as well as have a safe and enjoyable fishing experience. They are always within radio distance ready to give you pointers on techniques, salmon fishing hot spots or help you net that beautiful salmon that you’ve been playing for over an hour.

While fishing at the MV Charlotte Princess, you fish from 17’ custom-made Fat Cats, designed for maximum stability and efficiency in the waters around Langara Island. The 50 hp 4-stroke Yamaha motors provide excellent power and control when mooching for salmon.

New for 2007 are custom-designed 10 ½’ Kufa rods and a choice of Shimano 2000 GT Single Action or Penn 320 LDs Double Action reels (depending on how bruised you’d like your knuckles to be). Tackle is Triple Fish 25lb. main lines, Maxima leaders and eagle claw laser sharp hooks.

Halibut gear is also provided including 6’ Shimano TLC 66-H rods and Shimano TLD 20 reels. Eagle Fisheasy 2 Sounder fish finders and Icom 402S VHF radios are included in all Fat Cats.

Each Langara Island fishing trip begins with an orientation by the resort Fishmaster providing information about weather conditions, salmon fishing hot spots, and general resort orientation. You will also be shown how to operate your boat, how to bait your hooks and take care of your equipment.

For novice anglers, the resort offers a New Frontiers Program for more on-the-water fishing tips and instruction.

Masterfisherman Club

Oak Bay Marine Group believes in celebrating spectacular fish and the anglers who catch them. The exclusive Masterfisherman Club honours Chinook/King salmon over 50 lbs, Coho/Silvers over 20 pounds and halibut that top the scales at over 100 lbs. Each angler who catches one to these trophy fish is awarded the title Masterfisherman. He or she is recognized by the captain at dinner, given a hat and pin, has his or her name engraved on the resort plaque and receives 10,000 Fanatic Fishing Points. It’s an honour that most aim for but only a select few achieve.
